Although several academics and nonacademics have written in support of this self-styled revisionist approach, their work draws on that of Judith Neulander, who comes to the material from the academic discipline of folklore. Hordes and me, argue for the significance, historicity, and authenticity of crypto-Judaism in the American Southwest (and beyond), while supporters of the second reject the authenticity of crypto-Judaism. On a diªerent level, there are two main clusters of approaches: the proponents of the first, including Stanley M.
But up to this point, indepth professional historical analysis has not been readily available. To a great extent, the social scientific approaches have looked at modern aspects of crypto-Jewish practice and culture, making attempts to develop some historical arguments. Two related avenues of research have opened up: the historical and the more broadly social scientific, especially in the fields of sociology, anthropology, and folklore.
